Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking Statement
This Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking Statement is made by Waste Removal Battersea in respect of the financial year ending 31 December and sets out the steps we take to identify, prevent and address modern slavery and human trafficking in our operations and supply chains. We recognise that modern slavery is a serious crime and a violation of fundamental human rights, and we are committed to ensuring that it has no place in our business.
Our Business and Supply Chains
Waste Removal Battersea operates in the waste management and removal sector, providing collection, transportation and responsible disposal of waste for domestic, commercial and construction clients. Our supply chains include subcontracted transport and labour providers, equipment and vehicle suppliers, personal protective equipment providers, facilities management services and office goods.
We understand that certain parts of the waste and logistics sectors may be at heightened risk of labour exploitation. As a result, we take proactive steps to manage and reduce these risks through robust due diligence, clear standards and ongoing monitoring of our suppliers and contractors.
Zero-Tolerance Policy on Modern Slavery
Waste Removal Battersea has a clear and strict zero-tolerance policy towards all forms of modern slavery, forced labour, bonded labour, child labour and human trafficking. This applies to every aspect of our operations and to all individuals working for or on behalf of us, including employees, agency workers, subcontractors and suppliers.
All staff are expected to act ethically and with integrity and to comply with our internal policies on anti-slavery and human rights. Any breach of these standards by an employee may lead to disciplinary action, including dismissal. Any breach by a supplier or contractor may result in suspension of work, termination of contracts and, where appropriate, reporting to relevant authorities.
Supplier Due Diligence and Audits
We are committed to working only with suppliers and subcontractors who uphold similar values and standards in relation to human rights. As part of our supplier selection and onboarding process, we carry out due diligence checks to assess modern slavery risks. This may include requesting information on labour practices, reviewing relevant certifications, and assessing the robustness of the supplier's own policies and procedures.
Waste Removal Battersea conducts periodic supplier audits that focus on labour conditions, recruitment practices, right-to-work checks, wage and working hour records and health and safety standards. Where we identify areas of concern, we work with suppliers to develop corrective action plans, including clear timelines for improvement. If issues are not resolved to our satisfaction, we reserve the right to terminate the relationship.
Reporting Channels and Employee Awareness
We encourage a culture of openness in which concerns about modern slavery can be raised without fear of retaliation. All employees, agency workers and contractors are encouraged to report any concerns or suspicions of modern slavery in our own operations or in our supply chains.
Concerns can be raised directly with line managers, senior management or through a dedicated internal reporting channel. Reports may be made confidentially and will be treated seriously, investigated promptly and handled sensitively. We will not tolerate victimisation of any person who raises a concern in good faith.
We provide guidance and information to relevant employees, especially those involved in procurement and supplier management, to help them recognise indicators of modern slavery and to understand how to respond if they have concerns.
Monitoring, Review and Continuous Improvement
Waste Removal Battersea is committed to continuous improvement in our approach to preventing modern slavery. We regularly monitor the effectiveness of our measures and update our policies and procedures in line with evolving best practice and regulatory expectations.
This Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking Statement is reviewed at least annually by senior management. As part of that review, we consider any incidents reported, audit findings, changes in our business operations and developments in legislation or guidance. Where necessary, we set new objectives to strengthen our controls and enhance our training and engagement with staff and suppliers.
This statement has been approved by the management of Waste Removal Battersea and represents our ongoing commitment to combatting modern slavery and protecting the rights and dignity of all workers connected to our business and supply chains.
